International orders are now accessible to parents of Australian citizens and permanent residents. The decision to include parents of Australian citizens and permanent residents in the concept of immediate family has been met with relief and delight.
Nearly half of all Australians were either foreign-born or had at least one parent who was. But prior to this, parents who were born overseas were ineligible to apply for a COVID-19 exemption so they may immigrate to Australia.
Visitor Visa (temporary);
Given the extensive application wait times, many people might not be able to get a non-contributory visa or a permanent supportive parent visa.
With a visiting visa, parents may swiftly and affordably visit relatives in Australia. Longer-term visitation visas are available for parents of Australian citizens and permanent residents. Parents of Australian citizens and permanent residents may now stay in Australia for up to 12 months during any 18-month period with the Visitor (Subclass 600) visa.
Sponsor Parent Visa (temporary);
With the Subclass 870 visa, a parent of an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident, or a qualifying New Zealand citizen may enter Australia for a period of three (3) or five (5) years.
Parents are eligible to remain in Australia for up to five years at a time with the help of this visa. It provides an alternative to visiting visas, which only allow short-term visits.
More information is included in the Temporary Sponsored Parent subclass 870 visa.
Permanent Visa;
Under the Parent Visa program, parents of Australian citizens or permanent residents may be sponsored for permanent residence in Australia.
There is a cap, a waiting list, and a prolonged 30-year processing period for several visa categories under the Parent Visa Migration Program. The order in which your application is received will determine how it is processed.
